Plums are simmered with water and sugar until the plums become soft and a jam-like consistency forms. At this point, the plum compote can be flavored with fresh Sicilian basil.

Compared with extra jam and marmalade, only seasonal fruit is used in fruit compote and in larger quantities. The fruit is cut into larger pieces and cooked at lower temperatures, making it softer. Sugar content is reduced and does not exceed 30%.

Plum and basil compote is an excellent addition to many sweet and savory recipes. It can be paired with cheeses such as mild gorgonzola or brie, meats such as chicken or lamb, or used as filling for tarts and cakes. Plum and basil compote can also be used as a topping for yogurt or ice cream, or as an ingredient in salads or pasta dishes.
